MARCO POLO MASTERS WATER POLO
Team Etiquette
Creating a culture of play, respect and joy—together
1. Show Up with Spirit
-
Bring your good energy: your attitude matters just as much as your passing.
-
Leave the day's stress at the door. We’re here to sweat, laugh, and elevate each other.
2. Accommodate Varied Skill Levels
-
Align against an opponent of roughly your skill level and adapt your level of aggression to match what is wanted by them.
-
Don’t hesitate to ask people what level of physicality they prefer or make requests for the type of play you like.
3. Play Hard, Play Fair
-
No dangerous play
-
Hustle, but don’t hack. Physicality is part of the game, but control and safety come first.
-
Do not argue with the referee about a call - even when it’s questionable.
-
No grudges, no grumpiness. Mistakes happen. Let it go and reset.
4. Pass the Ball—and the Joy
-
Water polo is a team sport - look for the pass, not just the goal and include everyone in the rhythm of play.
-
Play the game in a way that makes others want to play with you and return to practice.
5. Communicate Clearly and Kindly
-
Give constructive feedback if needed - but always with kindness and context.
-
If in doubt, ask before giving advice in the water.
-
Talk to one of the team admin if something’s not working for you.
